Planqc opens its new headquarters in Garching

Yesterday, planqc opened its new premises in Garching. Together with representatives from politics and industry as well as investors, the start-up, which is the first start-up to emerge from Munich Quantum Valley (MQV), celebrated this important step.

The new office and laboratory space of the start-up, which specializes in the development of quantum computers based on neutral atoms, covers around 1,400 square metres. The spacious premises, which also include a basement that allows the computers to be operated with almost no additional cooling, were previously home to a hardware store. Following the major renovation, they now offer planqc sufficient space for further growth.

In his opening speech, Minister President Markus Söder emphasized Bavaria's commitment to promoting science and start-ups, for example as part of the Bavarian Hightech Agenda: "Research should create the jobs and prosperity of the future. This is the only way we can remain internationally competitive." Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the city of Garching, high-profile supporters and investors as well as employees and scientists attended the opening ceremony.

In addition to the new spaces, planqc was able to present another highlight - a preview of the planned 1000-qubit quantum computer that the start-up is developing for the Leibniz Supercomputing Center and which is to be integrated into the high performance computing environment there. Guests at the event were already able to take a look at the model.

Rudolf Gross, Scientific Director of Munich Quantum Valley, joked during the panel discussion on the future of the German quantum computing ecosystem: "It would be nice if we could convert even more DIY stores into high-tech locations at MQV."
