Max Planck Semiconductor Laboratory opens new building in Garching

On 7 October, a new building of the Max Planck Society's Semiconductor Laboratory (HLL) was opened on the Garching research campus. The state-of-the-art infrastructure plays a central role in the new cooperation between the HLL, the Technical University of Munich and the Walther Meißner Institute for the joint development of superconducting quantum bits, which was agreed as part of Munich Quantum Valley.

On 7 October 2024, the new building of the Max Planck Society's Semiconductor Laboratory (HLL) was opened on the research campus in Garching. The new building has 1,500 square metres of state-of-the-art laboratory space, including 600 square metres of clean room space with the third-highest cleanliness class. The close proximity of the new site to other leading research facilities will enable an even closer collaboration between the various institutions in the future.

The HLL will also play a central role within Munich Quantum Valley. The Walther Meißner Institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Technical University of Munich and HLL have agreed on a new cooperation for the joint development of superconducting quantum bits. The new clean room at HLL provides the ideal environment for producing qubits of the highest quality.
