Quantum computers are machines that are expected to be able to master problems in the future that are unsolvable for ordinary computers. Why do we need quantum computers? How do they work? When will they be ready for use? In this talk, Andreas Wallraff will give an insight into the specific peculiarities of quantum computers. For example, how they differ from computers you know from everyday life. Why it is so difficult to build them. What the state of the art is and what the future challenges are. He will refer to recent developments from his lab at ETH Zurich, where they are building quantum computers from superconducting circuits.
The talk will take place at 12 June, 19:00–20:30 at the Münchner Künstlerhaus (Lenbachplatz 8).
