Public lecture - "Wird die Pizza zukünftig mit Hilfe von Quantencomputern ausgeliefert?"

What are quantum computers? What physical principles are they based on? And what can they be used for? In an evening lecture at Altes Stadttheater in Eichstätt, Prof. Jeanette Lorenz will talk about the basics of quantum computers, the current state of development and potential areas of application.

Quantum computers are expected to have a major impact on industry and society. For example, quantum computers promise to be able to develop new materials and medicines more quickly. Quantum-supported artificial intelligence could evaluate images more efficiently, for example in medical issues. This future technology is also seen as having great potential for optimizing processes and workflows, for example in logistics. Quantum computers represent a completely new type of computer based on the effects of quantum physics.

This lecture sheds light on the basics of quantum computers, shows the current state of development and discusses possible future areas of application. The lecture will take place on 7 October 2024 at 7:00 p.m. (admission from 6:30 p.m.) at Altes Stadttheater as a prelude to this year's MQV Annual Meeting in Eichstätt and is intended for the general public. It will be given by Jeanette Lorenz in German and will last approximately 60 minutes including questions and discussion.

PD Dr. habil. Jeanette Miriam Lorenz conducts research into quantum computing applications at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS in Munich. She also heads the “Trustworthy Digital Health” department and teaches as a private lecturer in physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich. Jeanette Lorenz studied physics and mathematics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen and LMU. After graduating, she spent several years researching experimental high-energy particle physics at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland and Munich before switching to research on quantum computers in 2021.
